Sofar Sounds
If you haven't heard about Sofar Sounds yet, you need to go to one of their shows. SoFar Sounds was started in London in 2010 and is now in over 350 cities around the world. They throw secret, intimate concerts featuring incredibly talented, local musicians in volunteers' homes or local businesses. The focus here is all on the music, rather than sharing the experience with friends on social media. You apply for tickets (around $15 each), and if you are accepted, you will be sent the details of the show the day before the event. All events in Chicago are BYOB, and the lineup is secret until you arrive at the venue.
This fall, SoFar Sounds is doing a fundraiser for Amnesty International, to raise awareness of the ongoing refugee crisis around the world. Musicians like Oh Wonder, Above & Beyond, the Naked and Famous, Local Natives, and even Ed Sheeran will play concerts out of the homes of music fans. You can win a ticket to one of these performances by entering into their competition here where there is an optional donation to Amnesty International upon entry.
