Refresh Your Wardrobe With These 10 Summer Staples
Summer is just around the corner, so what better activity to pass the time at home during self-isolation than to shop online for your “entrance back into society” outfit? I’ve linked my 10 must-have wardrobe essentials that can be easily mixed and matched with existing closet pieces for outfits that you’ll be wearing all summer long. Scroll through my picks below, available now on their linked websites.
FLOUNCY PLEATED MINI SKIRT
The pleated mini-skirt is all over the internet being rocked in different sporty and athleisure looks. Pair this skirt with a cropped tank and sweatshirt tied loosely around the neck to get the “just stepped off the courts without breaking a sweat” look.
WHITE SNEAKERS THAT AREN’T AF1S
I will say this once and only once, but AF1s are now in the same category as Stan Smiths with the green heel or chunky white FILAs. I’m not saying they’re not a great closet staple to keep around, but every girl on the street is rocking these so to stand out, now’s the time to switch up your shoe game. It doesn’t mean that you have to veer away from wearing white sneakers even a little bit, I actually encourage you to seek out some alternatives. My new favorite are the Nike Shox TL in white I’ve linked below. Slimmer, more breathable silhouettes make for a great summer staple shoe.
LONG-SLEEVES WITH A POLO COLLAR
A trend made popular by UK style bloggers, long sleeve crewnecks with a polo collar are one of my essential closet pieces for this season. They have great versatility and make for a more polished look than your typical baggy sweatshirt.
DEPOP and Etsy have great options
WHITE TORTOISESHELL SUNGLASSES
As the sun’s rays great hotter and we spend more time soaking up the sun (wearing appropriate SPF!), sunglasses become a necessity and a staple for the season. These square sunglasses are less than $15 and look great on everyone. The white tortoiseshell is easily recognizable and great if you’re looking for a piece that others can easily associate with your wardrobe.
TERRY CLOTH SHORTS
The comfiest style trend of the season, terry cloth shorts are perfect for lounging by the pool or working from home. One of my favorite brands, Brownlee Bathing Corp., makes elevated French Terry sets in colorful options for effortless styling. Big fashion brands like Nike and Topshop are also hopping on this trend as they’ve realized comfort is king this season.
TIE-DYE SOCKS
One of my favorite trends made popular by quarantine life, tie-dye socks are the perfect way to add a pop of color to your monochromatic summer looks. You can purchase tie-dye socks through the popular Sammy Jo or numerous Etsy sellers. If you’re feeling crafty, you can even learn how to DIY tie-dye socks at home with my easy tutorial here.
LINEN BLAZERS
Linen blazers are one of my favorite pieces for summer! You can easily elevate a day time outfit for dinner or a date night look by throwing a linen blazer over a crop top and shorts. I’ve linked two of my favorites below that go great with any look.
STRAPPY LACE-UP SANDALS
This trend goes really well with all of my staple selects for this season. These sandals are so versatile and really elongate your legs in any outfit. I typically like to style these with an oversized button-down down worn as a dress and a small purse. You can also style them with a loose linen suit with the straps tied around the ankles of the suit pants for a more polished high-fashion look.
SILVER OVAL SHAPED HOOPS
Hoop earrings have been making a comeback over the last year, but I’ve noticed the trend evolving from gold to silver pieces as the weather warms up. Chunky gold jewelry is slowly being replaced by a silver counterpart. These silver hoop earrings are elegant and offer a great finishing touch to my outfits without being too over the top. Best of all, they’re only $7 right now (via Kohl’s of all places).
WHITE HOBO BAGS
Bottega Veneta’s white shoulder pouch in white is this season’s it bag, but for those not willing to shell out the $2800 price tag that comes with the clout, I’ve linked some affordable options below so you can still get the style without breaking the bank. The Frankie Shop and Stand both have great options when it comes to alternatives.
